Money Hunters

MH1:"My son got 10th rank in 5th standard. There are 50 students in his class. If you extrapolate the same to all kids in this country belonging to his age group,I think he stands no where.I am so worried. What if he continues like this? He cant get into any "Prestigious institution".What do you think he should do?"
MH2(MH1's Neighbour):"Oh!Does he go to any coaching institute to crack all those exams he is going to face in some 7-8 years?"
MH1:"Oh no!I never thought about that. I send him to "Abacus" classes to learn quick math and I send him to "Java" classes so that he can start programming and be ahead of others in his class. I also want him to excel in some games . So i force him to go to Tennis classes and Swimming Classes. I want him to earn 7-8 digit salaries.I don't want him to become a loser in life. And then when he comes back in the night its around 8.30. So I never thought about these classes."
MH2:"Ofcourse Mrs.MH1 even I want my son to live a life in luxury. You did a big mistake Mrs.MH1.Please send him now atleast. They will train him to solve those Multiple Choice Questions. Its better late than never right?Even my son goes to all these classes and he is now an expert in these Multiple Choice Questions. You know he is so brilliant. He asks me to give him MCQ's so that he decide which dress to wear or what breakfast to eat etc.I really think I'm helping him to solve those questions by training him at home for basic necessities also.He is in class 7 and always tops.Im so proud of him :) "
MH1"Sure Mrs.MH2 I shall send my son to the same coaching centre. He is anyways free in the morning.I'll have to wake him up at 5.00 am or so. That's not a problem.I want my son to top and not come 10th in his grade. Thanks a lot for your time Mrs.MH2.Bye"
MH2:"Bye"

One can analyse the above conversion in different ways. One analysis is Parents love their kids excessively and think the money they earn should be used only for such classes so that their kids don't become losers in life. You can see concern and love. But its just money behind all these. They finally want their kids to live in luxury (Notice "not Happily" And ofcourse they don't intend to do that. Its mysteriously forgotten). The other analysis is "Whats got into people now?Why are they forgetting Values?" Life is ofcourse not about going into a "prestigious institution" to join another "prestigious institution" from where you head to another "prestigious institution".Kids are no longer innocent. They are stressed and their mindsets are set by such an environment. Teach them values.Teach them our tradition. Let them experience love and not luxury. Ofcourse they are not going to be winners in life if they earn a 6-7 digit salary.

What happened to the tradition of learning out of interest and love for a subject? Ask anyone: They say I want to become a "Computer Science" Engineer or an "Electronics" Engineer. If a person gets a PhD in Painting, the world looks down upon them. Why?Give some importance to a person's liking. Why do people consider only people who "top" are the most successful people in life. You are successful only when you top in something you like and you are satisfied.

I heard some students absolutely don't go to school or college for their pre-university education/10+2 education.I was really shocked when I heard that because I really enjoyed those two years. It wasn't "stressful" as people put it across. It was fun.Learning was fun. Those students apparently get enrolled to a coaching institute which makes them by default enrolled to some school/college they don't attend.Well these classes are also called "integrated".Where is the integration? Its true that these 2 years of a student's life will help them analyze what they like and what they would want to pursue in life. But they shouldn't go by the preferences of others and slog for something they don't like.

The scenario should change.Students should think rationally rather than just "follow the herd".They should realize what they like or atleast realize what they absolutely don't like. And parents should give importance to what their child likes rather than what they like. Its ridiculously annoying to see the number of students committing suicides. After being that successful in their educational career, why are they committing suicides? The reasons given are they can't cope with the current syllabus and they are afraid that people around might look down upon them if they fail a course. If at all a student puts in all effort and still cant sail through the course then it just shows that he doesn't like it and there are many more things he can like and excel too.

Why are people behind money? There are many things you can buy.Can you buy love and affection? Can you get back your childhood? Can you experience the ultimate joy?Can you buy true friends? The System will not change, the Society will not change until I change,We change,All of us change.Lets be more human than just Money Hunters.

  1. beautiful chaitra!!! And I say I can't agree with you more! Teenagers are streesed out, caught up in that mad mad race. sometimes, we just can't take it! You're right, happiness is what's important, not luxury. And sometimes, happiness is very small...like my pu days when i finally discovered what life was all about. Thank you for the post. you really are an amazing analyser of situations.
    Hope your well!

  2. I came across this page, while I was arbitrarily browsing. Nice read. Once upon a time, a Mr. XYZ, a computer "engineer" went to amreeka, called up his parents and said, "This is awesome. I am earning a lot of money". His parents spread the word. Finally, an ass followed an ass, and then the whole nation followed this ass. And thus, the whole concept of IT industry developed. Now, every child is labeled as doctor or engineer at bloody birth!!

One of my friends wanted to be a lawyer. Parental pressure made her take up Electronics at some college and she is hating it now!! Sad, isn't it?
